opposite of reaction

I had three ticks in one day this weekend. I haven’t had that many in the last decade, total. Fortunately I was able to remove the only one that started to bite me without much trouble. My first reaction was to avoid taking my son into those woods, but it would be good for him to learn about ticks and to not fear them. I’m learning my first thoughts, my initial reactions, are often the opposite of what I should be doing with or for my son.
